Hello! My name is Nick Smereka-Hladio, and I'm thrilled to share my passion for music with you. I am currently employed in the Northside Independent School District where I work as an elementary music teacher. Over the past decade, I've had the incredible opportunity to immerse myself in a rich variety of musical traditions, performing with renowned Eastern European ensembles like the Tamburitzans, the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus of North America, and Korinya Ukrainian Folk Band. These experiences have not only deepened my understanding of diverse musical styles but have also honed my performance skills across various instruments.
Academically, I hold a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Duquense University, specializing in the Double Bass, and I am currently pursuing my Master of Music Education at the University of Texas at San Antonio. This rigorous academic background, combined with my extensive performing experience, has uniquely prepared me to teach a wide range of string, folk, and modern instruments.
My approach to teaching is rooted in patience and a genuine desire to instill a lifelong love and passion for music in every student, creating a supportive learning environment where individuals of all ages can discover their musical potential, build confidence, and develop fundamental skills while having fun. I believe that effective education balances passing down essential knowledge with empowering students to think critically and explore their own musical paths. I am passionate about creating a supportive and inspiring environment where every student feels valued and celebrated as they embark on their exciting musical journey.
